New Home Immigration and Settlement Centre welcomes immigrants and refugees from all over the world and embraces the contributions of each culture!

New Home was established in July 1991 as a non-profit agency to meet the needs of adult immigrants and refugees as they begin a new life in our beautiful city of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

The focus of programming at New Home is to ease the transition of immigrants to settlement and integration through preparation for meaningful employment and citizenship.

We teach English as a Second Language (ESL) to enable newcomers to converse, read, and write in one of the official languages of Canada.

We introduce social, cultural, and legal expectations for life in Canada, which are unlike conditions found elsewhere in the world.

We help our students prepare to enter the workforce by teaching North American standards for seeking employment, including networking, resume writing, writing cover letters, cold calling, job searches, interview techniques, and follow-up.  In addition, our students learn about the employment market, wage and benefit expectations, provincial and local economies, major employers, and regulatory agencies that control professional credentials.

We connect newcomers socially with other newcomers and with Canadian volunteers for friendship and mentoring.

We provide free, on-site childcare to encourage full participation by men and women.

We offer free computer instruction in a state-of-the-art computer lab.  Computers are an integral component of full-time instruction, and students have daily access to our systems.  We also offer free evening computer classes.

We instruct a variety of non-credit adult education courses in computer software use and Internet skills, citizenship preparation, basic first aid, and conversational English with improved pronunciation.

New Home Immigration and Settlement Centre was established to facilitate the settlement and integration of adult newcomers into Canadian society, a goal that is accomplished through teaching English as a Second Language (ESL) within the context of Canadian culture.

We at New Home recognize and respect the uniqueness of each adult learner with regard to academic and cultural background, individual experiences, abilites, goals and educational needs.

New Home is located in the Hermitage Road Shopping Centre in Edmonton, Alberta, in a residential neighborhood dominated by newcomers.

New Home is an ideal place for newcomers to begin learning the language and culture of their adopted home for many reasons:

Proximity to the homes of our prospective clients.
  Plenty of free parking.
  Good access to public transportation.

In over ten years of operation, New Home has helped thousands of newcomers from 71 different countries. <CLICK HERE TO VIEW MAP>

Some have escaped civil war or intolerable political conditions.
Many are seeking better opportunities for their children.
Some have moved here through marriage or family reunification.
Many have lost everything and are starting over again. (Learning a new language, seeking a new career, finding a new place in a new culture, etc.)
Among our students are engineers, truck drivers, farmers, nurses, doctors, secretaries, physiotherapists, machinists, factory workers, welders, teachers, research scientists... the list goes on and on.
